India's raising - A nation of Billion hopes or A nation of single Gold??

Posted by TrendyCollections

Now that the Olympics are over, Its time to do an evaluation.

As a patriotic citizen of Incredible India, a land of rich history, wealth, culture and tradition, not to forget "land of Kamasutra". Today I started to do a reality check as to see where we stand with respect to other nations. The primary focus would be sports though we are going to touch most aspects in comparison/evaluation. India also officially know as "Republic of India" is the seventh largest country in geographical terms and undoubtedly the second most populous country in the world. Home to some of the advanced civilizations(Indus valley civilization) in the world, India undoubtedly has some of the smartest people on the planet. Today when we ask ourselves a question why a nation of billion people who are smart enough to invent zero, who were able to develop ayurvedic medicine well before any one could; are lagging today in technology, Infrastructure & Sports?
As I ponder deeply, I stumbled across several questions as to where in the problem lies, who is responsible & what can we do to overcome it.
Firstly, Lets identify the problems that are hindering us from achieving what we could have. The first thought that came to my mind are our parents without whom we would have never existed. Indian parents are some of the best if not the best parents in the world. Indian family structure is the best in the world. The moral/family values that are taught are incomparable. Parents would go to the extent of starving themselves to feed their children. But despite doing everything so well, they fail to identify what their kid is interested in. I believe the notion that everyone in the world is different, their abilities, intellect or anything for that matter. Every one is talented if only you could see the talent in them. I think its time for parents to understand their kid, his/her preferences or interests and let them try what they want to become rather than enforcing what they think is good.
The second step towards achieving your ambition is to have conducive environment. This according to me is a major road block towards being successful. There is no necessary infrastructure to create a world class athlete. This problem starts right at the schooling age, not many schools have play grounds/Infrastructure for sports. The first place a kid would start playing and may or may not fall in love with a particular sport is school. Since most of the schools lack this feature, the opportunity for the kids to fall in love is at a bare minimum. Also the lack of social importance associated with sports other than cricket has compounded the problem. Hence it is really important for the government to set up guidelines mandating educational institutions to have all the necessary amenities/programs so as to create the awareness/interest in kids at an early age.
Even if a kid is lucky to get into a school where there is enough infrastructure and importance for sports, it is still difficult to keep the interest or momentum into the college as the cricket crazy media won't even recognize any other sports.
to be continued in the next part......
